Mary Poppins!

For those of you who are frequent readers of my blog, you know that several weeks ago I had the opportunity to see Marry Poppins at the Arkansas Repertory Theater! To say I was excited would have been an understatement. I was ecstatic! MP was one of my favorite childhood movies and I was finally getting to see it come to life on the stage.

Along with three friends and despite the nasty rain, we dressed up and headed out to have a fun dinner. Once our belly’s were full we made our way to the theater! Because there were so many people, we didn’t have much of a chance for pictures but I did manage to snap this one of me and my friend AC. (ignore the fact that it looks like I’m wearing a mounds of makeup. It was a byproduct of the darkness in the theater and the brightness of the flash!)

I also wanted to take a moment to brag on these local little ones who played Michael and Jane Banks. Being so young and disciplined enough to remember hundreds of lines is truly impressive! I doubt I could have ever pulled that one off.

I know not all of my readers are in Central Arkansas, but if you have the chance to see this show on a stage in your area you should definitely check it out. It was one of, if not the best, show I’ve ever seen in a theatrical setting!

What about you? Have you ever seen your favorite childhood movie come to life on the stage? Tell me about it in the comments!

Wish List – Spring Favorites

It’s officially Spring! And while you can’t tell by the looks of it here in Central Arkansas, we’re well on our way to warmer weather. If only the rain and clouds would finally move on to bring us that fun sun!

Even though I’m writing this blog wearing sweatpants and wrapped up in a blanket, I’m already dreaming about spring makeup, floral patterns, adorable wedges and fun summer dresses. It might be dreary outside but hey, I have a lavender candle burning.. that’s got to count for something!

To get myself out of this bad weather funk, I thought I would put together a few of my spring favorites for 2015! As always, I’ve made sure everything is accessible online AND affordable with nothing over $32!

Spring Favoritesssss

1.  Roller Lash Mascara – If you’re a makeup fan at all and haven’t heard about this new product by Benifit, you must be living under a rock.  The company states that their “Hook ‘n’ Roll brush grabs, separates, lifts and curls…while the instant curve-setting formula holds for 12 hours.” I have to admit, the packaging itself sold me when I stumbled upon it in the store. It currently retails for $24 at Ulta.

2.  Sugar Kisses Plus Size Dress – Not only is this spring/summer dress super adorable from the front, but it’s even more adorable from the back.  The exposed zipper and lace adds a bit of uniqueness to what otherwise would have been a simple rayon dress. The best part? It’s on sale for $11.98 at Target.

3.  Sam & Libby Arianna Gladiator Sandals – These adorable lace-up sandals are another fab find from Target. With a small wedge to add flair you can wear them with a dress, capris or shorts. They come in taupe and black and retail for $29.99.

4. Egyptian Bib Necklace – I mentioned this amazing necklace in my last post HERE.  When I saw this piece it was definitely love at first sight. Because it doesn’t have any acutal color, only metals, this is a piece you can pick up for the spring to wear with a simple tee and skinny jeans and then transition it into the fall by layering it on a tank and adding a blazer.  At $17.99 it’s hard to resist.

5. St. Moriz Instant Self-Tanning Lotion – Some have proclaimed this to be a dupe for the St. Tropez and I have to say that I agree.  I’ve been using this product for the last couple of weeks and I’m in love.  I put it on after my shower and before bed with an Ulta Tanning Mitt.  It works overnight and when I wash off the color guard in the morning, I’m left with a beautiful glow.  It takes a bit practice to get the technique down and to avoid missing areas or creating streaks but after a couple of tries its perfection.  The best part is it’s more than HALF the price of the St. Tropez version! It currently retails for $12.99 at Ulta.

6.  Rhinestone Framed Opal Button Stud Earrings – These beautiful studs are exactly what you need to add a bit of flair to your outfit.  With an imitation opal surrounded by rhinestones, its bound sparkle in the warm spring sun! It also has a $5.00 sticker price which means you can’t afford not to add these beautiful earrings to your collection.

7. The Blushed Nudes by Maybelline New York – This gorgeous palette is part of the Mabelline “Nudes” collection and is a Wal-Mart exclusive.  Filled with beautiful pinks and mauves it’s the perfect eye-shadow palette for the spring.  If you’ve been wanting to try Naked 3 but don’t want to shell out the cash, try this palette instead for only $9.98.  While it’s out of stock online as of this post, it won’t be long before it’s back in stock and ready to ship out to your neighborhood.

8. Faux Leather Satchel – This fun bag is just large enough to carry your spring essentials.  It has both round handles and an additional adjustable strap to fit your preferences.  The gold trim on the outside pocket gives it a little flash and sparkle. If you love it.. pick it up in the black version as well. You can find this beauty at Forever 21 for $27.80.

9.  Lavender Foaming Body Scrub – With spring and summer outfits often leaving large amounts of our skin exposed, it’s important to keep it moisturized and healthy.  I found this scrub a few months ago at a locally owned store about an hour from my house and I fell in love.  It lathers up like a soap but exfoliates and hydrates your skin into oblivion.  I promise this isn’t a purchase you’ll regret.  You can pick it up in 4 sizes with prices ranging from $4.50-$32.00.

Bauble Love at Cato’s

If you’ve read my past post, you know last weekend I went to see Mary Poppins at the Arkansas Repertory Theater! (More on that in a later post.) I’m also glad to report that despite the nasty rain and cold weather, the mauve dress made an appearance.

While doing a little shopping for a back-up outfit though, I fell helplessly in love with a few accessories from my local Cato’s. Seriously ladies, I couldn’t imagine myself leaving the store without them. Not only were they beautiful, but the price unbeatable.

I’ve been a long time buyer of statement necklaces from Cato’s. In fact, I have a bulletin board in my bedroom with push pins holding up about 15 of them. The majority from … you guessed it .. Cato’s. However, I’ve never really bought any of their bracelets. That is until I saw this one hanging on the clearance bracelet2

Not long ago I found a similar gold hammered stretch bracelet on the Macy’s website. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this look an awful lot like the Cato’s version?

You want to know what this frugal gal loved about it even more? The $20 price difference. That’s right. The Cato’s version was originally $5.99 but I scooped her up for $3.99. Score!

I also managed to take home both of these fun rings for only $5.99 each. And to be perfectly honest, I’ve worn all three pieces more than once this week! Clearly a $15 investment that has done me well!

For those of you who have never heard of Cato’s or don’t have a local store, be sure to check out their new website. It won’t disappoint. Seriously.. take a look at this Bib Necklace that I’m currently crushing on and I dare you not to fall in love.

May the Luck of the Irish be with You!

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!  I hope you survived the day of green clothes, beer and running from being pinched!

buijilMy first memory of St. Patty’s Day was when I was in Kindergarten. We returned from recess to find the room ransacked with desks upside down, toys out of their place, books spread throughout the room and tiny little green footprints from the middle of the room and out the door. It appeared we were hit by the leprechaun’s and we thought it was the most amazing thing. Every St. Patty’s Day since, I’ve recalled that moment when I saw the mischief the tiny men in green created in our classroom!

It’s crazy how small moments like this make a lasting impression on you even as a child. Whether they are created by our teachers, parents, grandparents, siblings or friends some moments really do last a lifetime. The crazy thing is, most of the time the people who are involved in these instances don’t even know the impact. A simple thing like staging an leprechaun break-in still puts a smile on this girls face 20+ years later.

How about you? Do you have a certain memory from your childhood that you remember as vividly today as you did back then? Share it with me in the comments!

Is it Friday yet?

Are you as relived it’s finally Friday as I am?  I don’t know if it was daylight savings time or just bad mojo from the universe but this week has been a doozy.  I am so looking forward to having one of those “recharge the batteries” types of weekends with my lovely friends.

Lucky for me, I get to get dressed up because I am going to see… the practically perfect in every way, Mary Poppins at the Rep! (You see what I did there?) I’m seriously so excited I could squeal. You have no idea how long I have wanted to see this show in its theater setting and NOW it’s finally happening!

For the last month, I’ve been mentally planning my outfit.  From the dress to the shoes and down to the earrings, I had it all planned out.  That is until Mother Nature decided to throw a wrench in my perfectly planned outfit… well, so to speak anyway.

After weeks of rain, snow, cold, sun, rain, warm, show, and even more rain, I don’t know what type of weather I’m facing tomorrow. The forecast currently says rain and that’s not really going to jive with my adorable mauve dress and nude pumps. Seriously, don’t you hate when the weather messes up your pre-planned fashion statement?

It’s starting to look like I’m going to have to go with a backup plan.  One that I have not yet formed. No one wants to walk in the rain wearing a fancy dress, heals and a poncho. At least not this girl. Either way, I’m determined to enjoy myself and I’ll be sure to blog about my Marry Poppins adventure and outfit of choice.

Happy weekend friends!

Stack the Deck ..

A few weeks ago my friend JP and I had a crazy idea. Let’s throw a poker party for a small group of our friends. The problem .. neither one of us knew anything about the game.

IMG_6908You’re probably thinking to your self .. “Kelli, you’ve never played poker and you want to host a poker night?” I get it. It’s not the norm but after a bit of thought we decided this would be a “learn to play poker” type of shindig. Luckily for us, we didn’t have to rely on watching Youtube video’s or the inevitable wikiHow because two of our friends were pretty skilled players. (Major props to Chris and Josh for having such patience with us ladies!)

While the party purpose was learning the game, we didn’t pass up the chance to eat some good food and catch up on each others lives. Babies growing up, wedding planning, birthday presents and jobs were at the center of our dinner conversations. And seriously, what’s a party without desert? Check out these fabulous casino themed cupcakes made by my lovely friend Rachel. Aren’t they awesome. Looking at these, you would have no idea this isn’t her day job. Girl has talent!

After Saturday night I could officially say that I now know how to play poker. But what I can’t say is that I’m a card shark. I started with $2,800 in chips and ended with $182.  I clearly have a ways to go but watch out friends.. I’m coming for ya next time!
